MP praises Blackburn United CSC Holiday Camp for kids

MP Kirsteen Sullivan recently visited the Blackburn United CSC Holiday Camp to see first-hand the support being provided to local children and families during the school holidays.

Free holiday camps offer meals and activities

The free holiday camps provide a safe and welcoming environment for almost 40 children at each session, offering healthy meals alongside football, multi sports and team building activities led by qualified coaches. The programme is supported by Meals & More, whose funding helps ensure every child has access to a healthy breakfast and nutritious lunch while taking part in activities.

Impact on local community

During the visit, Ms Sullivan met staff, volunteers and young participants, learning about the positive impact the programme has on children and families in the local community. She also heard about Meals & More who have supported provision of more than 2.8 million meals alongside thousands of hours of enriching activities and opportunities for children living in poverty to thrive not just survive.

Volunteer contributions recognised

Ms Sullivan also recognised the contribution of volunteers, including Killian and Roisin Boyle, who have supported the club's programmes for several years. Their father, Chris Boyle, who works for Sysco and volunteers at the club helped connect the club with Meals & More through Sysco's partnership network, establishing a relationship that continues to benefit local children and families.

MP's praise for the initiative

The Bathgate & Linlithgow MP said: "It was fantastic to visit Blackburn United CSC and see the incredible work being done by the club, Meals & More, Active West Lothian and Scottish FA Extra Time to support local children and families during the school holidays. These initiatives make a real difference by providing healthy meals, fun activities and a safe environment where young people can learn, develop and thrive. I would like to thank all the staff, volunteers and partner organisations for their hard work and commitment to supporting families across our community."
