Food writer Cindy from Salt and Serenity has revealed a microwave method for making perfect poached eggs in just two minutes.
Traditional poached eggs can be tricky
Traditionally, poached eggs have been difficult to master, often breaking apart in water unless you have specialist techniques. Cindy explained: "Poached eggs are not something I ever made at home until a few weeks ago. They always seemed so complicated to make."
The simple microwave technique
The microwave method requires only boiling water, a teaspoon of vinegar, and a heatproof mug or bowl. The vinegar's acetic acid helps egg proteins coagulate, ensuring they keep their shape during cooking.
Simply crack the egg into the vinegar-water mixture, cover with a plate, and microwave at 80% power for 30 seconds. After gently turning the egg, cook for another 10 seconds or until set.
Why this method works
This technique eliminates the need for swirling water and prevents eggs from falling apart. The result is a perfectly shaped, springy poached egg without any unnecessary hassle.
Cindy admitted it took her "over a dozen eggs" to perfect the technique after seeing it on Instagram. The method works because cooking in a mug retains the egg's shape whilst the microwave gently heats it through.
Once cooked, simply drain the water and place on kitchen paper to absorb excess moisture for a flawless poached egg.
