McVitie's Launches High-Fibre Hobnobs Oaty Snaps in Vanilla & Caramel
McVitie's Launches High-Fibre Hobnobs Oaty Snaps

McVitie's has introduced a new range of oat biscuits called Hobnobs Oaty Snaps, designed to help consumers increase their fibre intake while enjoying a crunchy snack. The biscuits are made with 100% wholegrain oats and are available in vanilla and caramel flavours. They will start rolling out from the week commencing July 20, initially appearing in Tesco, Iceland and Morrisons stores, with a recommended retail price of £1.49 per 167g pack.

Responding to the Fibremaxxing Trend

The launch taps into the growing wellness trend known as 'fibremaxxing', where people are prioritising fibre in their diets over protein. According to reports from last year, most adults do not consume the recommended amount of fibre. In the UK, the daily recommendation is 30g, but average intake is around 20g or less. Annalisa Fanali, marketing manager at McVitie's, said: 'We're excited to introduce McVitie's Hobnobs Oaty Snaps. Inspired by our much-loved oaty heritage, we've created a deliciously crisp biscuit that's perfect for enjoying with a cup of tea or your favourite beverage.'

Health Benefits of Fibre

Fibre is crucial for digestive health, immune function, and even brain health. Professor Thomas Barber, consultant endocrinologist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and University of Warwick, told Metro: 'Fibre keeps us regular, strengthens the immune system, and there's evidence that it can impact brain functioning, mood and cognition.' Professor Kieran Tuohy, professor of energy metabolism and microbiome at the University of Leeds, added: 'A high-fibre diet has consistently been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, strokes, type 2 diabetes and colon cancer.'

Product Details and Availability

The new Hobnobs Oaty Snaps promise a combination of 'Hobnobs' signature oaty goodness with a snappy crunch. They are not intended as a substitute for other high-fibre foods like lentils, fruit, vegetables and grains, but offer a tastier way to boost fibre intake. This launch follows a busy year for McVitie's, which recently introduced Jaffa cookies, White Chocolate Hobnob, Oaty Crunch Creams, and their first savoury biscuit in nearly 200 years — Penguin Bites in lightly salted, cheese, and salt and vinegar flavours.

Consumer Appeal

Fanali noted: 'As consumers increasingly look for snacks that deliver both enjoyment and balance, Hobnobs Oaty Snaps offer the best of both worlds. They provide the satisfying taste and crunch people expect from Hobnobs, while offering a more permissible everyday treat that consumers can feel good about choosing.' The biscuits are expected to appeal to those seeking simple ways to eat more fibre throughout the day without giving up their afternoon biscuit and brew.
