For generations, Liverpool residents have fond memories of exploring Lewis's, the city centre department store that operated for over a century. Established in the 1800s, the store became a cornerstone of local life, where many shopped or worked. Fragrances from the perfume department and the buzz of the food hall remain vivid recollections for former visitors.
Building now on the market
Last month, the ECHO reported that the iconic Lewis's building is being marketed on a freehold basis. Global commercial real estate advisor Avison Young and joint agents Area have been appointed to market the striking property. The remaining space includes nearly 70,000 square feet of self-contained office facilities, known as The Department, and the remainder of the former department store in shell-and-core condition, totalling 138,492 square feet.
Regeneration plans
The area has already been designated for large-scale regeneration, including the £5 billion expansion of Liverpool Central Station Gateway, situated directly behind the Lewis's building.
