Kelvin Fletcher admits 'hardest thing' about letting go of farm as kids plan future takeover

Kelvin and Liz Fletcher have opened up about their hopes for the future of their farm, expressing a desire for their children to eventually take over the family business. In the latest episode of Fletcher's Family Farm, airing on Sunday, the couple discussed their farm products and the challenges of diversifying to keep the farm thriving.

Liz explained that shearing sheep costs the family money, but turning the wool into blankets helps recoup some of the expense. She highlighted the struggles farmers face, noting that diversification is essential to generate additional income. 'Farmers are struggling,' she said.

Speaking about their long-term plans, Liz shared her dream of the children running the farm. 'Having the kids involved and helping just makes me special, because they'll one day, hopefully, take over me, and Kelvin can be in the Bahamas,' she said, adding with a laugh, 'So I'm hoping that the kids are doing all this, and we're just sitting back, and they're sending us money.'

Kelvin agreed, saying he would love to see the children running a large farming enterprise in 20 years while he takes on the role of farm handyman. However, when Liz questioned whether he would be able to let go of control, Kelvin admitted, 'I think that's probably the hardest thing for most farming families to let go.'

Liz joked that she would be on a cruise, adding, 'Maybe we should do a series. We'll come back when we're 80, we'll still be here in the same room, boxing blankets. Kids will be doing something completely different.' The episode also features the family preparing for a six-day Christmas celebration gala, the arrival of their pet Ginger's puppies, and a flock of sheep getting lost in the fog.
