A food content creator has shared a simple recipe for making ciabatta rolls at home, claiming it is far healthier and cheaper than buying bread from supermarkets. Making bread from scratch might appear intimidating, yet it has genuinely never been more straightforward to bake at home.
The Benefits of Homemade Bread
TikTok creator Jerome, widely known as Jerome Cooks Food, recently unveiled his four-ingredient recipe for producing the ultimate ciabatta rolls. In a video posted earlier this month, Jerome said: "Supermarket bread is usually full of non-nutritional ingredients, with things like emulsifiers, preservatives, dough conditioners, just to name a few. These add nothing to the taste but can potentially damage your gut."
"But it doesn't have to be this way. All you need to make bread is flour, water, salt, yeast, and a little bit of time. It's tastier than anything you'll buy," he added. "And it's healthier and cheaper as well. This no-knead ciabatta only takes a few minutes of active work. And you can't beat having fresh, crispy bread straight out of the oven."
Simple Ingredients
All the ingredients required should already be sitting in your kitchen cupboards, serving as essentials for any home cook or novice baker. The dough is prepared by combining flour, yeast, salt and water in a bowl to produce a wet and shaggy mixture.
You'll require a degree of patience while the dough proves, though you can comfortably get on with your daily tasks in the meantime. In total, the dough will require an hour and 20 minutes to prove and three folds. To help achieve a crispy exterior on the bread, fill a bowl halfway with water. This will create steam to help produce that crunchy crust on the outside of the bread.

Jerome's video has been watched over 5,000 times, attracting 283 likes and comments from viewers eager to try the recipe. One commenter, Anne, stated: "Thank you so much for this, I'm having a go at making flatbreads, using Greek yogurt and flour." Another commented: "I have tried to make (small) bread also in the air fryer!"
Ingredients (makes six to eight)
- 400ml lukewarm water
- Two tsp (7g) Fast action/instant yeast
- 450g Strong White Bread Flour
- 1.5 tsp (8g) salt
Method
- Combine the water, yeast and salt in a bowl and mix together. Incorporate the flour and mix until you have a shaggy dough with no remaining dry flour.
- Cover and leave for 30 minutes, then stretch and fold. Repeat this process two more times (three total folds), then leave for 30 minutes.
- Preheat an oven to 220°C (fan), then gently turn out the dough onto a well-floured, lined baking sheet.
- Gently stretch the dough (working from the centre), until an even thickness, then divide into six or eight rolls. Cover and leave for 20 minutes.
- Five minutes before placing the bread in the oven, fill a dish halfway with boiling water and position it on the lowest shelf in the oven. Place the bread on the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes (once ready, it should be golden and produce a hollow sound when tapped).
- Leave to cool on a wire rack and serve!
