A Slovakian tourist remains missing after sending a final text message to his family saying 'love you' before embarking on a hike up Ben Nevis. Tomas Gafrik, 40, last contacted his family on Thursday morning, and police are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.
It is believed Gafrik spent Wednesday night just above Half Way Lochan on the mountain and was planning to head for the summit. He has not been in touch since, prompting a search by Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.
Heavy snow and winds of 50-80mph hit Ben Nevis at the weekend. About 27 volunteers from the rescue team began their search on Sunday morning, assisted by a Coastguard search and rescue helicopter and 12 members of other groups.
Gafrik is believed to have been wearing a grey jacket and carrying a green and yellow rucksack. Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen him since he arrived in Scotland on Tuesday to come forward.
