Antisocial behaviour teams in Gateshead will visit areas where bins are regularly left out after waste collections. The council warns that bins left in back lanes and streets can attract vermin, cause obstructions, create fire hazards, and make areas look untidy.
Enforcement action possible
The environmental antisocial behaviour teams will check back lanes and streets the day after collections, speaking to residents about putting bins away. The council said officers will take enforcement action where necessary.
Coun Garry Thompson, cabinet member for environment, said: "Our teams work very hard to keep Gateshead clean and tidy. However, leaving bins out after collection day can cause several issues for residents and communities, which is unacceptable.
"That's why our team will be visiting areas where we know this is an issue so we can prevent this happening in the future and help everyone to love where they live."
Parking restrictions
The council has not specified which areas will be targeted. It is also asking residents to avoid parking in locations that restrict access for bin crews, with enforcement action threatened for vehicles causing obstruction before collections beginning from 7.30am.
