Five Rescued After Being Cut Off by Tide in Wales

Two lifeboats were deployed to rescue five people on the Welsh coast after they were cut off by the tide.

Rescue Mission at Lavernock Point

A rescue mission was launched by Penarth RNLI at 6.40pm on June 14 following reports that five individuals had been stranded by the incoming tide at Lavernock Point in the Vale of Glamorgan. Two RNLI lifeboats were dispatched to the scene.

A group of local jet skiers first spotted the stranded group and raised the alarm by contacting the coastguard. With a flooding spring tide leaving very little beach remaining, the casualties were located by the lifeboat crews and quickly extracted from the area.

RNLI Warning and Advice

The RNLI has warned that tidal ranges around Penarth are expected to increase over the coming week, raising the possibility of more people being cut off by the tide along the coastline. Visitors planning to spend time on local beaches or along the coast are advised to consult tide tables and allow plenty of time to complete their visit safely.

Penarth RNLI thanked those who reported the incident, stating their prompt action helped volunteer crews resolve the situation quickly and effectively.
