Fans who love farming shows looking for their next bingeable series need look no further. Back in 2023, Farm Rebellion aired on Disney+ and quickly became a hit with fans. The six-part documentary followed former investment banker Benedikt Bösel, who became a farmer after being hit by a financial crisis.
He then took over the innovative farm 'Gut&Bösel' in Brandenburg, which is testing a radically new type of agriculture in the fight against climate change. Along with his partner Tess Ward and experts such as Auma Obama from Kenya, Jean-Martin Fortier from Canada, and Ernst Götsch from Brazil, the team gets to work to prove that their regenerative experiments can inspire the world.
But things aren't easy as the team are forced to fight against drought and their own limits. When Farm Rebellion was released it received rave reviews and boasts a rating of just over 7/10 on IMDb.
Viewer Reactions
Talking about the show, one user left a review: 'This show touched me to the core. As we sometimes feel, that the world will crash, a bunch of young and good-looking people in Brandenburg decided not to give up and change something via farming.'
'Next to having learnt a lot about ecological farming, I really enjoyed the characters as well. Didn't like all of them, but found all of them interesting. I also like that they show, that farming is hard work and changing something needs a lot of power.'
They added: 'Also the farming experts coming over/being visited were very interesting. Funny how many things one has never heard of. (Agroforestry, Syntrophy etc.) And the beauty of the camera shots is unbelievable. Is it always sundown in Brandenburg? ;) Loved it.'
Someone else shared: 'This film and story has many facets + beautiful filmography + a very relevant topic: how to produce food in a sustainable way while combating the effects of climate change + some very inspiring guests (sister of Obama, founder of market-kitchen, a chef from Norway ...).'
Benedikt's Perspective
Meanwhile, talking about filming Farm Rebellion, Benedikt told Country and Townhouse: 'It was an incredible opportunity, because never again will you be given such an opportunity to show the topic of farming to such a big audience.'
'The filming was so much fun, we spent 100 days with the team so they became close friends and they became big fans of what we do. The best part for me personally was when we were not at home – I met some cool pioneers like Isabella Tree, she's such an amazing person.'
'What's really important is that societal shift: understanding the value of farmers' work and the importance of land use for our futures and for the next generation, and falling back in love with nature and food. And learning how healthy soil leads to healthy food and healthy people. These are such important things in our time.'
