Fans of Clarkson's Farm searching for their next farming fix need look no further than the documentary series Farm Rebellion, which premiered on Disney+ in 2023. The six-part show has quickly become a favourite among viewers, earning glowing reviews and a rating of just over 7/10 on IMDb.
The series follows former investment banker Benedikt Bösel, who turned to farming after a financial crisis. He now runs the pioneering farm Gut&Bösel in Brandenburg, Germany, where he and his team are trialling regenerative agricultural methods to combat climate change. Alongside his partner Tess Ward and experts including Auma Obama from Kenya, Jean-Martin Fortier from Canada, and Ernst Götsch from Brazil, the group aims to demonstrate that their approach can inspire change globally.
However, the journey is not without challenges, as the team must contend with drought and their own limitations. One viewer praised the show, saying: 'This show touched me to the core. ... I really enjoyed the characters ... I also like that they show that farming is hard work and changing something needs a lot of power.' Another added: 'This film and story has many facets + beautiful filmography + a very relevant topic: how to produce food in a sustainable way while combating the effects of climate change.'
Reflecting on the making of the documentary, Benedikt told Country and Townhouse: 'It was an incredible opportunity ... The filming was so much fun ... The best part for me personally was when we were not at home – I met some cool pioneers like Isabella Tree.' He emphasised the importance of a societal shift: 'Understanding the value of farmers' work and the importance of land use for our futures ... and falling back in love with nature and food.'
