An elderly dog has been handed into an animal centre in Florida with a heartbreaking note attached to her collar, revealing that her owner is homeless and can no longer care for her.
Diva, now around nine years old, was returned to Polk County Bully Project after previously being adopted from SPCA Florida. The note, tied to her collar, described her as "fat but happy" and detailed her gentle nature, including being good with cats, dogs, children and adults, and having no aggression.
The note also mentioned her health issues, including hip pain upon waking and a grain allergy, and listed commands she knows. At the bottom, her owner wrote: "Dad is homeless and unable to provide stable accommodation that she deserves."
Staff at the rescue centre said they were "broken" by the note and shared the story on Facebook, pleading for someone to foster or adopt Diva. They emphasised that she "did nothing wrong" and should not spend her senior years in a kennel.
The appeal drew emotional responses from social media users, with some commenting on the owner's difficult decision and the tough economic circumstances. The shelter is now hoping to find Diva a loving forever home.
