EasyJet is bringing its Fearless Flyer course back to Newcastle Airport in November for the first time in seven years, after those who have taken it described it as 'life changing'.
Course details and success rate
Since launching in 2012, easyJet’s Fearless Flyer programme has helped 15,000 people overcome their fear of flying, with a success rate of over 95%. With one in six people estimated to be a nervous flyer, the course – costing £239 – offers reassurance and techniques by senior easyJet pilots and phobia experts.
Three-part programme
The course is divided into three main parts: a virtual ground course, where an easyJet captain explains the unfamiliar sounds and sensations during take off, landing and turbulence. Lawrence Leyton, a leading expert in the psychology of fear, teaches mind techniques to help manage nerves.
This is followed by a pre-flight one-hour ‘Meet the Team’ online Zoom session on Wednesday, November 11, where participants will be walked through the airport experience and what to expect. There will also be a Q&A session with the Fearless Flyer Team including an easyJet pilot, Lawrence Leyton and Course Director Mark Wein, who shares his tips on how he overcame his own fear of flying.
Finally, a special experience flight will take off on Sunday, November 15, where participants will put their new skills to the test whilst listening to a live commentary from the Fearless Flyer team.
Course director's comments
Mark Wein, easyJet's Fearless Flyer Course Director, said: "We are delighted to be bringing our Fearless Flyer course back to Newcastle, following this year’s opening of the easyJet base at the airport. Having previously helped over 500 people in the North East to become Fearless Flyers, we are really looking forward to growing this number further in the future. As an ex-phobic myself, I know how restrictive a fear of flying can be, but whether the fear roots from not being in control, or not liking the sensation of turbulence, or just a general feeling of anxiety, with the right help it can be totally conquered and we look forward to coming back to Newcastle in November to help anyone joining the course to do just that."
