East Kilbride Hiking Club enjoyed two July outings with vastly different weather. The first hike was foggy and dreich, while the second benefited from sunshine and wind.
First Hike: Foggy Summits
The high level group started at Pass of Drumochter, crossing General Wade’s Road, and headed north to summit A’Bhuidheanach (936m) and Carn na Cain (941m). They descended to Wade Bridge after a 17 km hike.
The low level group began near Wade’s Bridge and headed south-east to climb Carn na Caim, meeting the high group for the descent.
Second Hike: Corrour Station and Sunny Walks
The second hike started from Corrour railway station, famous from the film ‘Trainspotting’ and as Britain’s most isolated and highest railway station. Conditions were excellent, with sunshine and wind keeping midges away.
With 44 members each, high and low groups split: the high group completed a clockwise 10 km route taking in Leum Uilleim (909m). The low group crossed the rail track east and enjoyed a 15 km walk around Loch Ossian, with an optional detour to Peter’s Rock, a memorial to Peter Trowell.
Both groups had to catch the 18:25 train back, the last of the day. Members socialised in the station cafe or at outdoor benches before returning to Bridge of Orchy for the coach home to East Kilbride.
