Plans for a new commercial dog breeding kennel have been submitted to Wirral Council. The applicant, who supplies dogs for professional and law enforcement purposes, has lodged a planning application for a breeding kennel and training area on land next to the M53.
Existing Licences and Location
The applicant, based at 2 Hargrave House Cottages, Benty Heath Lane, already holds licences for breeding and selling animals as pets. The proposed kennels aim to provide improved accommodation for dogs already kept at the site under the existing breeding licence.
The new kennel would be located in the applicant's garden, at the furthest point from a neighbouring house. Planning documents note that the neighbour also keeps dogs and poultry, indicating animal keeping is established in the area.
Design and Welfare
The kennel building would feature dark brown timber cladding and a dark grey metal roof, with a maximum ridge height of 2.5 metres. It would be fully insulated and climate controlled, with acoustic insulation to minimise noise leakage.
The plans state that dog welfare is "paramount", with the kennel ensuring dogs are kept safe, comfortable, and warm. The dogs on site are described as "highly trained", which the applicant claims will help minimise barking or other nuisance behaviour.
Law Enforcement Use
In addition to licensed breeding, the applicant supplies dogs for professional and law enforcement applications. The plans state: "High standards of training, management and welfare are maintained at all times, contributing to a calm and controlled environment."
