Crispy baked potatoes in 20 minutes with no oven needed

A recipe developer has shared a foolproof baked potato method that takes under 20 minutes and delivers crispy skin with a fluffy centre, using just a microwave and an air-fryer.

Traditional baked potatoes can take up to an hour or longer in the oven, plus the extra electricity cost. HelloFresh's senior recipe development manager Mimi Morley has shared how to create a "mouth-watering baked potato that's so good" without the long wait.

Three simple ingredients and two appliances

Morley said: "All you need is three simple ingredients, plus your favourite toppings, a microwave and an air-fryer. And in under 20 minutes, you'll be eating a delicious British classic. No more waiting around for more than an hour."

She added: "As someone who loves bold flavours, I like to experiment a little with my toppings. Cheese is a staple topping, but why not try a blue cheese instead of cheddar for a little more complexity?"

Step-by-step method

Morley suggests pairing the potato with "a bacon crumb, sour cream and chives, perfectly complementing the crisp skin." The recipe creator encourages people to "have a little fun" with cooking by adding any topping they desire.

The recipe requires potatoes, oil, salt, butter, cheese, plus toppings of choice. First, wash the potato and dry it thoroughly, then pierce holes all over with a fork. Microwave on high for 10 minutes until fully cooked, then place on a board, drizzle with oil and season with salt.

Finishing in the air-fryer

Carefully slice the potato in half and generously spread butter on the inside, working it in with a fork. If adding cheese, add it now. Place the potato cut side up in a pre-heated air fryer and cook on high for five minutes. Finish with preferred toppings and serve.
