An apparent gas accident at a Colorado dairy farm has killed six people, including a high school student, authorities have said. The incident occurred at Prospect Valley Dairy in Keenesburg, about 35 miles north-east of Denver, on Wednesday.
Emergency crews recovered the bodies from a confined space at the farm. The Weld county coroner's office is investigating the deaths as a possible consequence of gas exposure. All of the deceased are Hispanic males, and their identities have been withheld pending family notification.
The local school district confirmed that a high school student was among those who died. The Weld county sheriff's office said there was no evidence of a crime, describing it as an accident. The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched an investigation.
Prospect Valley Dairy is a member of the Dairy Farmers of America, which expressed deep sadness and offered condolences. Weld county is a major agricultural area, producing dairy, beef, grain, and sugar beets, with a significant Hispanic population.
