A cleaning expert has shared a simple overnight hack that removes limescale from bathroom taps and showerheads for just 2p per application, leaving them sparkling without any scrubbing. Sarah Burton, Director at North West Commercial Cleans, partnered with Redrow to reveal the method, which uses a common household ingredient: white vinegar.
How the 2p hack works
Burton explained: "My favourite overnight bathroom hack is soaking taps in a simple vinegar and water solution. Fill a sandwich bag with water and a cap of vinegar and secure it around the taps overnight using an elastic band. In the morning, remove the bag and gently brush or wipe the taps clean and let them run for around 60 seconds."
This technique helps prevent limescale buildup and keeps taps looking their best without the need for harsh chemicals or vigorous scrubbing. A five-litre bottle of white vinegar costs just £6.99, and only a capful is required per application, making each treatment cost approximately 2p.
Additional tips for a sparkling bathroom
After cleaning the taps, Burton recommends spraying the sink with a scented disinfectant for a fresh finish. "It's a small touch, but it leaves the bathroom smelling fresh and welcoming throughout the day," she said.
She also advises cleaning the plastic shower seal, a frequently neglected area that can accumulate grime and mould. Using washing-up liquid and water on shower screens and seals helps prevent streaks and maintains hygiene.
Finally, to keep the bathroom smelling pleasant throughout the day, Burton suggests placing a freshly laundered towel on the radiator to distribute a fresh linen aroma throughout the room.
