Households across the UK are being urged to clean their windows before the next heatwave arrives, or risk unsightly streaks. A cleaning enthusiast has shared advice on TikTok, explaining why sunny conditions can ruin your window cleaning efforts.
Why Clean Windows Now?
Windows often appear dirtier in sunny weather because the light reveals grime and rain marks that built up over winter. With another heatwave expected to bring temperatures up to 30C, it's best to clean windows before the sun is too strong.

Georgia, known as 'Clean with Georgia' on TikTok, warned: "If there's one bit of cleaning advice I can give any homeowner, it would be don't clean your windows in the sun." She explained that direct sunlight causes cleaning solutions to evaporate quickly, leaving streaks that are hard to remove.
Instead, she recommends cleaning windows on a cloudy day to achieve a streak-free finish.
How to Clean Windows Streak-Free
- Use warm water with a tiny drop of dish soap.
- Remove moisture with a squeegee.
- Dry the edges with a microfibre cloth.
Alternatively, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. The vinegar cuts through grime and neutralizes calcium in hard water. After spraying, use a squeegee and wipe excess with a cloth.
Viewers praised the advice, with one commenting: "I know this but I still hate it. Cleaning is best when the sun is shining... Have to stop myself every time."
