Simple and Eco-Friendly Weed Control
Michelle, who runs the Instagram page @crafty_morning, shared her method for removing weeds between paving stones. Instead of using white vinegar, salt, or lemon juice, she opted for boiling water, which is safer for the environment.
Wearing protective gloves, Michelle poured boiling water over the weeds. Checking back "three days later," she found they had turned brown and died.
Why Boiling Water Works
Boiling water is effective because it penetrates deep into the gaps of the patio, reaching the roots. The heat thoroughly cooks the weed, ensuring every part is destroyed.
How to Apply Boiling Water
To use this method, fill a kettle with water, boil it, and carefully carry it outside. Clear any obstacles from your path to avoid tripping.
Hold the kettle at a distance over the weeds to minimize splashback, then pour the water gently. This kills the stem and soaks the root base, making removal easier.
Over the following days, the weeds will wilt, turn brown, dry out, and die. Once dead, sweep them off the patio with a broom and dispose of them in the garden waste bin.
Preventing Future Weeds
To stop weeds from returning, seal the gaps between pavers and give the patio a regular sweep, ideally weekly.
