Mopping Wooden Floors with Black Tea Keeps Dust Away Longer
Black Tea Mopping Keeps Wooden Floors Dust-Free Longer

Flooring experts at All Kleen Carpet Cleaning Services have discovered that mopping wooden floors with black tea can keep dust at bay for longer and restore their natural shine. The tannins in black tea act as a light stain that brings out the warm tones of hardwood, while polyphenolic compounds from the Camellia Sinensis plant attack germs and prevent their growth.

Why Wooden Floors Get Dusty

Hard flooring is ideal for busy homes, but it can become surprisingly dirty over time. As the weather warms up, wooden surfaces generate static electricity, causing dust to float in through open windows and settle constantly. Routine cleaning with the right products becomes vital to maintain appearance.

The experts recommend using four to six tea bags for lighter wooden floors and ten to twelve for darker hardwoods. The strength of the tea can be adjusted: dilute with water if too strong, or add more tea bags for more potency.

Preparation Steps

Before mopping with tea, ensure the floor is completely free of dust and dirt. Thoroughly sweep and vacuum to remove every trace of grime. Then, bring 1.9 litres of water to a boil in a large pot. Once boiling, turn off the heat and steep eight black tea bags for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the tea bags, squeezing out every last drop, and allow the tea to cool until barely warm to avoid damaging the floor's finish.

To speed up cooling, boil only half the water, steep the tea, then top up with eight cups of cold water. When lukewarm, pour the mixture into a large bucket and test it on a discreet area, such as a corner. Dip a clean cloth into the tea, wring it out thoroughly (never saturate wooden floors with water), and apply in the direction of the wood grain.

Application and Results

Once satisfied with the shade, mop the rest of the floor using minimal amounts of water. Allow the floor to dry fully. The result is wonderfully revived wooden flooring with a natural shine and reduced dust accumulation.
