Consumer group Which? has identified the top budget supermarket sausages in the UK, with own-brand bangers claiming the highest honours.
Blind Taste Test Results
In a blind taste test featuring 10 supermarket own-label sausages alongside The Jolly Hog and Porky Whites, a panel of 60 participants rated each sausage on flavour, texture, and aroma. Three own-brand sausages earned the coveted Best Buy award.
Top Three Supermarket Sausages
- Lidl Deluxe Pork Sausages (£2.49 for 400g) achieved a 73% rating for eating pleasure, moistness, texture, and value for money.
- Aldi Specially Selected Pork Sausages (72%, £2.49 for 400g) were hailed as impressive all-rounders.
- Morrisons The Best Thick Pork Sausages (72%, £3.25 for 400g) satisfied tasters with their appearance, aroma, and flavour.
Other Supermarket Brands
Asda secured fourth place with a meaty flavour and balanced seasoning, priced at £3.17 for 400g. Co-Op sausages (£3.90 for 400g) were appreciated for taste and texture, though some desired more flavour.
Premium Brands Fall Short
The Jolly Hog and Porky Whites both scored 65%. The Jolly Hog had an appetising look and smell but was too subtle in flavour and coarse in texture. Porky Whites were visually appealing but lacked flavour, with fewer than half of tasters satisfied with the texture.
