A blind taste test of 26 full cream cow's milks in Australia has crowned Barambah Organics Dairy East Coast full cream organic milk as the top choice, described as 'infused with the essence of grass'. The test, conducted by a panel of nine reviewers, scored milks on aroma, viscosity and taste, with taste weighted at a 2:1 ratio.
Farmhouse Gold, a popular brand favoured by the partner of the test organiser, scored highly but was not the overall winner. Testers noted that many milks were indistinguishable, with only 1.7 points separating the 4th and 23rd-ranked products. However, premium offerings showed a wide range of flavours and textures.
The test highlighted the consistency of the Australian milk industry, with most products delivering an enjoyable middle range. Seasonal variations affect milk quality, with spring typically offering sweeter and creamier milk. The results suggest that while budget options are reliable, distinct flavours come at a higher price.
