Annual Taxi Trip to Troon Brings Joy to Special Needs Kids

The countdown is on for an influx of very special visitors to Troon next week. The town is preparing to welcome scores of children on Wednesday, June 17, as the annual Glasgow Taxi drivers' outing takes centre stage.

A Tradition of Giving

A message on the Troon Community Council webpage reads: 'Troon is looking forward to welcoming the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund on their 79th trip to our town, on Wednesday 17th June. This event gives so many young people with special needs a chance to have a day out at the seaside with the backup of Troon's Town and Walker Halls, if required. Everyone always goes that extra mile on the day from the schoolchildren who line the streets, the knitters who cover the tops of all the bollards along North Shore, the shopkeepers and locals who support the day.'

79 Years of Tradition

A message on the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund webpage said: 'Join the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund in celebrating 79 years “Goin’ tae Troon.” Since 1945, thousands of taxi drivers have donated their time and effort to make the “Outing” the annual success that it is. Most of the drivers don fancy dress costumes, much to the delight of the children and the people who line the route through Glasgow and in Troon itself.'
