Alison Hammond has created a leopard print bag in memory of her late mother Maria, who died from liver and lung cancer in February 2020. The This Morning star partnered with clothing brand Scamp and Dude to design a 'Swag Bag with Purpose', with £10 from each sale donated to the British Liver Trust.
Personal Inspiration Behind the Design
Alison, 51, chose leopard print because her mother Maria, originally from Guyana, South America, wore the pattern constantly. "The reason I went for leopard print is because my mum literally wore it everywhere—leopard print glasses, leopard print shoes, leopard print dresses," Alison said. "She was obsessed with leopard print, to the point where she's kind of made me a little bit obsessed by it. My mum would have been all over this."
Supporting the British Liver Trust
Scamp and Dude announced the collaboration on Instagram, stating: "For Alison, her Swag Bag with Purpose is personal. She's one of the warmest humans on the planet, and she'll be donating to British Liver Trust in loving memory of her mum." The British Liver Trust is the UK's leading liver health charity, working to improve liver health and support those affected by liver disease or cancer.
Other Celebrities Joining the Campaign
Alison is joined by fellow This Morning star Kate Lawler, supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and David McCall, raising funds for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign.
Alison's Double Grief
Maria's death in February 2020 was followed by the passing of Alison's father in Jamaica just four months later. Alison described securing her permanent Friday hosting role on This Morning later that year as "bittersweet," as her mother could not witness her achievement. Alison has spoken about feeling her mother's spiritual presence and hearing her voice, jokingly recalling her mum's promise to watch over her: "Thank you mum, but not all the time, not when I'm with a bloke!"
Creative Tributes
Alison dedicated her debut novel, Bombshell, to her mother and crafted a lead character navigating life after losing her mother.
