Animal lovers can adopt a Highland cow from £30 at Jacksons at Jedburgh Farm, with the one-off payment going towards caring for the whole fold and “preserving the magic of the Highlands.” The adoption process does not involve taking a 600kg cow home; instead, the fee supports the farm’s Highland cows.
Adoption packages and what they include
The farm offers three packages – bronze, silver, and golden – at different price points. The bronze package, priced at £30, includes an adoption pack delivered to the door, featuring a personalised sponsorship letter, certificate, Highland cow fact sheet, magnet, and a special mystery Jacksons at Jedburgh gift.
For £45, the silver package includes everything in the bronze adoption, plus entry for two people to the farm’s The Highland Way, a self-guided walk where the adoptee can see the Highland cows and other animals. The gold package, costing £90, is aimed at serious enthusiasts and offers two people a one-hour guided tour, including a trailer ride through the fields, followed by the chance to meet the cows.
Other Scottish animals to adopt
During the gold tour, participants can get up close with the cows and take photographs with the fold they have helped support. For those who prefer other animals, the Scottish Wildlife Trust offers adoptions of otters, ospreys, puffins, red squirrels, and beavers, while younger supporters can adopt harbour seal pups.
Each adoption through the Scottish Wildlife Trust includes a pack with a collectable coaster, tote bag, personalised certificate, species fact file, and free entry to one of the Trust’s visitor centres. This provides a way to support Scotland’s wildlife without the practical challenges of keeping a cow at home.
