Add Cumin for Perfect Guacamole: Chef's Secret Ingredient

As temperatures soar above 30°C across the UK, many are turning to no-cook meals. Guacamole, a classic summer staple, can be elevated with one simple ingredient: ground cumin. Chef Ali from Gimme Some Oven recommends adding a quarter teaspoon of cumin to the traditional mix of avocado, lime juice, and red onion.

The Secret Ingredient

Ali explains: “It’s made with all of the usual fresh ingredients you would find in a classic, authentic guacamole recipe, plus a dash of ground cumin, which I’m convinced rounds all of the flavours out perfectly.” This versatile recipe can be customised and pairs well with toast, burgers, tacos, nachos, baked potatoes, deviled eggs, quesadillas, wraps, and Mexican dishes.

Recipe Details

The recipe includes three ripe avocados, half a cup of finely diced red onion, one tablespoon of fresh lime juice, one-third cup of freshly chopped coriander, one jalapeño (cored and diced), a quarter teaspoon of ground cumin, and salt and pepper to taste. Method: mash avocados to desired consistency, mix in remaining ingredients, and season as needed. Serve immediately for best flavour.
