Adam Henson Announces Birth of 14 Piglets on Farm

Countryfile Star Adam Henson Announces Farm's New Arrivals

Fans of the beloved BBC programme Countryfile have been left absolutely delighted after presenter Adam Henson made a significant and heartwarming announcement on social media. The 60-year-old farmer, who has been a fixture on the show since 2001, shared thrilling news directly from his Gloucestershire farm, captivating his extensive following.

A Television Veteran with Deep Agricultural Roots

Adam Henson is far more than just a television personality; he is a seasoned farmer with a wealth of agricultural expertise. His television credits extend well beyond Countryfile to include popular series such as Countryfile Summer Diaries and Inside Out. Furthermore, he has lent his knowledgeable voice to BBC Radio 4's On Your Farm and Farming Today, and co-presented Lambing Live alongside Kate Humble.

When the cameras stop rolling, Adam manages his own substantial farming enterprise from Bemborough Farm in the Cotswolds. This site also operates as the Cotswolds Farm Park, a major tourist attraction that welcomes thousands of visitors each year, offering a hands-on experience of British farming life.

The Big Announcement: A Litter of Fourteen Piglets

In a charming video posted to his Instagram on Sunday, February 1st, Adam revealed the exciting cause for celebration: the successful birth of 14 piglets at his farm. The presenter, known for his down-to-earth demeanour, filmed a late-night check on his animals, providing viewers with an intimate glimpse into the realities of farm life.

"It's about eleven o'clock in the evening and before I go to bed, I always let the dogs out and then settle down myself," Adam explained in the clip. "But if there's any animals that need checking, of course I go and do that around about the same time. I knew that one of our sows was close to giving birth."

He detailed the signs of impending labour, noting that when you can draw milk from a sow with a large udder, birth is typically within the next twelve hours. Adam then entered a specially designed freedom farrowing pen, turning the camera to showcase the adorable new arrivals snuggled together.

Ensuring Safety and Celebrating Success

Adam took a moment to explain the importance of the pen's design, which features protective bars. "What happens sometimes, because the sows are so big and the piglets are so little, they occasionally get squashed by the sow," he said. "But when you've got a set up like this, it makes them a lot safer. You can see they're all snuggled up, and there's a few feeding there."

Providing a reassuring update, he confirmed the mother's wellbeing: "She's got 14 piglets and she's cleansed, which means she's passed the afterbirth. So, I'm happy with that. It's a job well done and now I can go to bed in confidence that they're all fit and well." Adam also paid tribute to farmers nationwide, acknowledging their round-the-clock care for livestock.

An Outpouring of Fan Support and Appreciation

The announcement was met with an immediate and warm flood of supportive comments from followers. One fan posted, "Good morning Adam, Thank you for showing us lovely, sweet piglets." Another shared, "I found myself instantly smiling at this. Thank you," while a third gushed, "Gorgeous! She will be a busy mummy."

Further comments highlighted the care shown: "That's so cute and you can see they are being well looked after," and "What a beautiful sight. Thank you to all of the farmers who keep food on the table. You are and your teams are loved and appreciated."

Continuing a Legacy of Rare Breeds Conservation

This joyful news follows recent coverage where Adam shared his work with rare breeds on his farm. In a recent episode of Countryfile, he detailed the microchipping and DNA sampling of two new Exmoor pony foals, emphasising the critical importance of conservation efforts for this rare breed.

"Not only is it important for the rule of the land to have these ponies microchipped," Adam explained, "but also for the Exmoor Pony Society and particularly for the breed itself... The Exmoor Pony is still very rare... So, we're really just doing our bit for rare breeds conservation and keeping this gorgeous breed going."

This latest update from Bemborough Farm serves as another endearing chapter in Adam Henson's ongoing mission to connect the public with the realities, challenges, and profound joys of British agriculture.
