Dog experts at Purely Pets have identified seven low-maintenance breeds that can fit comfortably into a busy lifestyle. These dogs are naturally more adaptable and can thrive even when their owners work long hours.
According to the experts, leaving a dog alone for long periods can be challenging, but with the right breed and preparation, it can be manageable. They noted that while all dogs need regular exercise, training, and socialisation, some breeds are more adaptable to busy lifestyles than others.
Top Low-Maintenance Breeds
French Bulldogs rank as a great low-maintenance choice for busy owners, thanks to their compact size and modest exercise needs. They are happy with short walks and plenty of time relaxing at home, making them easy to fit into a hectic routine. The experts added: "Just make sure to give them plenty of cuddles on your return home."
Chihuahuas, though small in size, are big in personality and can be well-suited to busy lifestyles. Their low exercise requirements and tiny size make them easy to care for. The experts noted: "Just keep an eye on their attitude, or they could boss you around. If you have space in your life for two of these tiny delights, then they often work well as a pair."
Breeds for Active and Relaxed Homes
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are great companions for people with busy, active lifestyles, thanks to their ability to sense and adapt to their owners' moods, reported PureWow. Their small size and easygoing nature make them especially well-suited to older adults, apartment living, and households with other pets.
Dachshunds generally have upbeat, playful temperaments and are often willing to participate in a range of activities. Exercise can include playing around the house, as well as regular walks. They can also adapt well to a dog-friendly office or a work-from-home space, where they can be content sitting nearby while you work.
Calm and Content Companions
Basset Hounds are calm, friendly dogs that don't need lots of exercise and are happy to spend time relaxing at home. Despite their hunting origins, they're generally content with a slower pace of life and don't demand constant activity.
