A mum has shared a simple yet effective hack for sprucing up shower screens and banishing stubborn water marks just by using a 35p kitchen cupboard essential with trusty washing up liquid. The hack has been hailed a "lifesaver" by viewers.
The Problem with Shower Screens
Shower screens can be notoriously challenging to clean, with watermarks and limescale deposits proving stubborn to remove if allowed to build up over time. Tackling the bathroom can be an overwhelming chore, with numerous surfaces requiring attention, including the sink, toilet, shower and bath.
The Mum Behind the Hack
A mum who runs the TikTok page My Little Home, where she posts cleaning and household content, may have the key with her easy yet highly effective shower screen cleaning method. She branded herself a "terror" in her younger years, but after getting married and trying to run her own household, she learned she was lacking some fundamental cooking and cleaning abilities. She educated herself using online resources and now passes on her knowledge to others.
The mum began: "Starting off with the shower screen because if your shower screen is dirty the rest of the bathroom ends up looking dirty."
The 35p Solution
Her method involves using a refillable Dishmatic brush filled with equal parts Fairy liquid (or any other washing up liquid) and white vinegar. A 568ml bottle of white vinegar costs just 35p in Tesco. The mum specifically used Stardrops' White Vinegar Spray in an 850ml bottle, priced at £1.19 from The Range.
She advises running the brush under the tap to get it slightly wet before thoroughly scrubbing the shower screen. The cleaning enthusiast added: "Top tip - you can do this while you're having a shower. I like to do this while I've got my hair mask in and then you're literally killing two birds with one stone. If you do this every day in your shower you're not going to have a big build up of water marks which means it's going to be a lot quicker."
Finishing Touches
She continued by utilising her window vac to clear the shower screen, though noted that for those without one, an ordinary squeegee would work perfectly well. She then proceeded to generously apply any shower screen or window cleaner on both sides of the shower screen. Taking a microfibre cloth, she cleaned the outer side of the shower screen but stopped short of wiping the inner surface, having learned you're "not supposed to rub it in."
Rounding off her video, the mum said: "I've seen loads of shower screen hacks but I think this one works the best. I know the before and after isn't that crazy because I did clean this the other day but if you have serious water marks I promise you this is gonna be amazing."
Viral Success
Her TikTok tutorial has received 306,500 views, 8,500 likes, and hundreds of comments so far. One TikTok user said: "Honestly this hack is such a lifesaver! I remember when I tried it for the first time after finding it and I was shocked to see how well it worked!!" While another added: "Love this!!"
