DIY expert Bill Jarvis, co-founder of patio paint supplier Premium Paints, suggests it can be surprisingly effective for small patches of stubborn weeds.
How to Use It
To use, sprinkle a small amount of biological washing powder directly onto the weeds, lightly dampen the area with water, and leave it to work over the next few days. The trick works best on weeds growing in narrow gaps between paving slabs rather than larger patches in the garden.

"Most people assume they need to buy a bottle of weed killer, but that is not always the case," says Bill. "Biological washing powder is something a lot of us already have at home, yet very few people think to use it outside. It can be a handy option for weeds growing in the joints between paving slabs, especially if you catch them before they become established."
He emphasizes timing: "A lot of it comes down to timing. If you deal with weeds while they are still small, they are much easier to manage. Waiting until the patio is completely overgrown usually means a much bigger job."
