A TikTok user has shared a simple three-ingredient homemade fertiliser recipe that promises to make plants 'flourish' with shiny green leaves. The hack, posted by @oldgarden.official, uses everyday household items: egg shells, white vinegar, and water.
To create the fertiliser, crush egg shells in a container, then stir in 50ml of white vinegar. Add 500ml of water and let the mixture stand for three days. After the waiting period, filter out the water and pour the solution into a spray bottle. The TikToker guarantees that plants will grow 'luxuriantly' with leaves that are 'shiny green'.
Gardening enthusiasts on TikTok praised the tip, with some sharing their own plant-care secrets. One user commented: 'I put crushed egg shells right into the soil with coffee grinds. Works amazing.'
The tip comes as gardening expert Monty Don revealed the 'biggest and most important' garden job for September and October: planting spring bulbs. Speaking on Gardeners' World, Don emphasised the importance of proper drainage and suggested mixing grit into compost for bulbs like daffodils, irises, scillas, muscari, and hyacinths.
