2p Vinegar Hack for Sparkling Shower Heads and Taps
2p Vinegar Hack for Sparkling Shower Heads and Taps

A simple overnight soak using vinegar and water can restore shine to bathroom taps and shower heads for just 2p per use, according to cleaning specialist Sarah Burton.

The Overnight Soak Method

Sarah Burton, Director at North West Commercial Cleans and a cleaning expert who collaborated with Redrow, shared her favourite bathroom trick. "My favourite overnight bathroom hack is soaking taps in a simple vinegar and water solution," she said. "Fill a sandwich bag with water and a cap of vinegar and secure it around the taps overnight using an elastic band."

In the morning, she advises removing the bag and gently brushing or wiping the taps clean, then letting them run for about 60 seconds. "This is a simple way to help prevent limescale and keep taps looking their best," Burton added.

Cost-Effective and Long-Lasting

A five-litre bottle of white vinegar costs £6.99, and only a capful is needed per application. This works out at just 2p per use and can last for many cleaning sessions.

Additional Tips for a Gleaming Bathroom

Burton also recommends cleaning the plastic shower seal, which can quickly accumulate grime and mould. Using washing-up liquid and water on shower screens and seals helps prevent streaks and maintains cleanliness.

To finish, she suggests spraying the basin with a scented disinfectant. "It's a small touch, but it leaves the bathroom smelling fresh and welcoming throughout the day," she said.

For a lasting fresh scent, Burton advises placing a freshly laundered towel on the radiator to distribute a clean linen aroma around the room.
