Dogs Trust in Darlington is appealing for homes for 25 dogs, including some of its longest-serving residents. Pixie, Robin, and Maple have featured in many of ChronicleLive's pet rehoming appeals and have spent months in kennels.
Staff at the charity would love for them to find their happy ever after. Taking on a pet is a big commitment, so it is important to do your research before adopting an animal. But for those who are able to commit to offering a pet a home can receive a lifetime of love in return.
How to apply for a dog
To help give all dogs a fair chance of finding their forever home, Dogs Trust applications allow people to share what type of dog they're looking for. People can add up to four favourites to their application to give the charity an idea of the dogs an applicant likes, so they can consider you for similar dogs.

Meet the dogs looking for homes
Blossom is a four-year-old Greyhound. Staff say she is a beautiful lady ready to enjoy the luxuries a home and family can offer. She’ll enjoy a calm home set up where she can truly relax. She is an affectionate girl and loves to lean in for pets. Blossom can live with primary school aged kids but will need to be the only dog in the home. She adores company and would be best suited to a family who have minimal leaving hours.
Jet the Border Collie is aged between one and two years old. Staff say he has led a sheltered life and lacks confidence. Despite this, he's building up trust each day and showing staff that he’s a very sweet lad who adores spending time with his people. His new family will need to be patient whilst he settles into homelife and builds up his confidence. Support with housetraining will be needed as well as building up time away from his new owners. He is looking for a calm home environment with minimal visitors and no pets. Any children will need to be in their teens and have a secure garden for outdoor playtimes.
Claude the French Bulldog Cross is aged between two and five years old. Staff say he is a characterful chap with a very sweet side that shines through once he knows and trusts you. He enjoys chasing his toys and gets giddy when excited. Claude is looking for a calm home with no children or pets where he can take things at his own pace and build his confidence. He is reactive towards other dogs, so he will need to be kept on the lead and muzzled when out in public.

He can live with teenagers who don’t mind his bouncy ways and would prefer to be only dog in the home.
Scruff the Cairn Terrier Cross is aged between five and seven years old. Staff say he is an independent older chap ready to find his forever home. He's a big fan of cheese which will be a great reward for continued training. He’ll be best matched with adopters who are familiar with the Terrier breed and can offer a home where he can be centre of attention as the only dog. With children, Scruff can live with older secondary school age.
Harley the American Bully Classic Cross is aged between five and seven years old. Staff say he is a bundle of fun and will be great for someone looking to do training with their dog and a variety of enriching activities. His new family will need to be up for putting training in place and having lots of laughs along the way. As Harley is full of life and can forget his manners at times, he’ll be best suited to living with teenagers who are confident around lively breeds.

His new family will need to be around most of the day whilst he settles into home life. Moose can live with children of secondary school age and another dog pending a successful introduction.

Blue is looking for a child-free home with adopters who are committed to continuing her training and providing the management she needs to thrive. A secure garden is a must, as she will need to remain on lead and wear her muzzle when out and about.
Snowdrop the Crossbreed is aged between five and seven years old. Staff say she is a delight and will be the best snuggle buddy. She adores companionship and having a snooze by your side on the sofa. A family who has minimal leaving hours would be best matched. Snowdrop has been social with other dogs and may live with another calm friend. She is a big softie and will be most suited to living with teenagers.
Maggie the Labrador Retriever is aged between two and five years old. Staff say she is a gorgeous girl who will make a fabulous addition to the family. She adores a snuggle, is eager to please and loves playtimes. Maggie is looking to settle down into a calm home environment. She’ll be best as the only dog in the home and have access to less dog populated walking routes. Maggie has been great with meeting people and will be ok to live with primary school aged children.
Lucy the American Staffordshire Terrier Cross is less than a year old. Staff say she is an amazing girl who is going to be bags of fun in the home. She loves playtimes, using her nose and learning new skills. With adopters who can put the time into her training and support her will encourage her to blossom into a well-rounded adult dog. She’ll be best suited to living with older teens and being the only dog in the home.
Khaleesi the Turkish Kangal Dog is aged between five and seven years old. Staff say she is a friendly girl and will be fine to live with secondary school aged kids who are comfortable with big breeds. There is potential for her to live with another dog, pending a successful meet. A family who are around majority of the day will be ideal for Khaleesi.
Charley and Milo the Smooth Coat Chihuahuas are looking for a forever home together. Staff say this adorable pair are OK spending some time away from their humans but will need some support with house training. They’d like to be the only pampered pets in the home. Charley and Milo will be best suited to living with kids of secondary school age.
Amigo the Lurcher Cross is 13 years old. Staff say he is young at heart and is still happy to go for adventures just as much as snoozing in the house. He is completely house trained and his foster carers describe him as a wonderful house guest. A garden would be lovely for him to stretch his legs and laze around in.
Narla the Saluki is aged between one and two years old. Staff say she is a sweet girl, looking to build confidence with everyday life situations with the help of a loving family. Narla would be best suited to a pet-free home and with older teenagers. Walking areas free from other dogs and busy roads are preferred as Narla can react and become frustrated around these.
Foxy the German Shepherd Dog Cross is a two-year-old bundle of fun who absolutely loves his toys – especially a football. Staff say he’s looking for an active home that enjoys playtime, training, and heading out on adventures together. Foxy can live with older teenagers, but he would prefer to be the only dog in the home while he continues building confidence around other dogs.
Barley the Samoyed Cross is aged between two and five years old. Staff say he is a lovely, clever boy looking for patient owners who will help him build confidence and settle into home life. He can be a little anxious at times, so he’d love a calm, adult-only home where things are fairly predictable. Barley will need to be on lead and muzzled around people and dogs in public.
Ollie the Lurcher is aged between two and five years old. Staff say he is a playful chap who loves to zoom around the secure field chasing after a ball and doing ‘find it’ games for hidden treats. He is dog social and loves to meet other dogs who share his exuberant play ways. A home with a garden will be great for zoomies. Pending a successful meet, Ollie can live with another dog who enjoys his playstyle.
Bertie the Shih Tzu Cross is aged between one and two years old. Staff say he is a fun, affectionate young lad with so much potential. Once he knows you, he absolutely loves fuss, playtime and spending quality time with his favourite people. He will need an adult-only home with few visitors and a calm, predictable routine where he can continue his training and grow in confidence.
Lola the Jack Russell Cross is aged between two and five years old. Staff say she is a sweet girl who is finding kennel life and busy environments a little stressful. She can live with children aged 10+ who understand when she would like her own space, but she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Bailey is a two year old Lurcher. Staff say he is a fun, energetic bundle of joy who brings excitement and laughter wherever he goes. He would suit a home with older teens who can understand when he's feeling a little over-excited and give him support and space when needed. Bailey can live with dogs of a similar size.
Maple is a sweet three-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross. Staff say she is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can truly settle and shine. She can live with older teens who’ll respect her space and help her feel safe. She’ll need to be the only dog in the home, as she enjoys having her own space to relax.
Pixie is a sweet, intelligent Catahoula Leopard Dog aged between five and seven years old. Staff say she loves using her nose and tracking to find her favourite treats. Pixie’s other favourite activity is sunbathing. Pixie likes meeting new people, so will only need a few meets at the centre to meet her new family.
Robin the Lurcher is aged between two and five years old. Staff say he is a super fun lad who loves nothing more than a game with his toys. A home with a garden and no neighbouring dogs would make the paw-fect play area for him. Robin will be best suited to an adult-only, pet-free home where his family can be around for company throughout the day.
