A woman has been left fuming after her neighbour asked her to move her garden fence for a "silly" reason. The dispute began shortly after she installed a wooden privacy fence in her back garden to keep her dog safe and to avoid disturbing the neighbours.
The homeowner, who had recently moved in, was surprised when the woman next door came knocking with an unexpected request. Claiming the fence was ruining her view, the neighbour demanded it be moved, leaving the homeowner questioning if she was being unreasonable.
Neighbour's Demand
Explaining the situation on Reddit, the woman wrote: "She asked if I would mind moving my fence back about six feet. I asked her why I would do that." The neighbour said the fence blocked her view from her kitchen window, and she liked to look out at the trees, adding that if the fence were moved, the homeowner would still have plenty of yard.
The homeowner responded: "I explained as politely as I could that the fence was entirely on my property line since I had the survey done, and moving it would literally give her six more feet of my yard for free." The neighbour retorted that she had lived there for 15 years and had always had that view, so it was "basically hers." The homeowner couldn't help but laugh and told her no.
Escalation
Since then, the neighbour has made life uncomfortable for the homeowner. She has "accidentally" thrown leaves and branches over the fence twice, and last week was caught trying to peek over with a step ladder. When confronted, the neighbour said: "If I weren't so selfish, she wouldn't have to do it."
Turning to social media for advice, the homeowner asked fellow users what they would do. One user suggested: "Record her and call the city on her a***." Another joked: "Ask her why doesn't she just move her kitchen window to a spot where she can get her view back." A third advised: "Get cameras and next time she peeks over, spray her face full blast with a water hose."
Another user commented: "Wow, the audacity to really come up and ask you to move your fence, like what? Like you're seriously just going to uproot the fence and move it back for her? I would've laughed at her too." They added: "You might want to get a Ring camera and point it towards the part of the fence that's next to her yard. Just so you can capture her craziness on video because don't put it past her to damage your fence when you're not around."
