Why Tin Foil Works Against Pigeons
Pigeons are accustomed to living near humans, so they are generally unbothered by deterrents that affect other birds, such as loud noises or scarecrows. However, tin foil produces sudden flashes of light when caught by sunlight, which appears to pigeons as rapid movement. This flashing unsettles them, as they cannot identify its source, leaving them feeling vulnerable or believing a predator is nearby.
Using tin foil increases the likelihood that pigeons will swiftly move on to find a safer roosting spot, allowing gardeners to clear them without spending money.
How to Apply the Deterrent
Simply tie strips of tin foil to fences, trees, railings, or any other spot where pigeons tend to settle. Hanging them in strips allows them to flutter in the breeze, further unsettling the birds. Alternatively, use the foil to cover surfaces where pigeons regularly perch.
