Donald Trump has shared a bizarre six-year-old edited clip portraying King Charles as uncaring. The US President posted the video to Truth Social as part of a compilation attacking various world leaders, attempting to portray himself as caring and compassionate compared to others.
Video shows 2020 visit to Asda distribution centre
The footage, from 2020, shows the then Prince of Wales visiting an Asda distribution centre in Bristol with the Duchess of Cornwall. A staff member is seen chatting to the future King before his legs gave way, and he fell backward. The clip then cuts to a shot of the King walking away, seeming not to care about the man.
However, the viral clip was shared at the time and showed the King staying with the staff member after attempting to catch him. He then remained nearby while the man was seen by medical professionals until his security assured him the individual was ok.
Compilation aims to show Trump as compassionate
The US President shared the video as part of a compilation of clips showing world leaders ignoring people in need and service members, followed by clips of himself greeting others and hugging veterans. Part of the video is captioned “the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you,” as the footage attempts to portray him as very compassionate.
The swipe at the King from Trump comes as a shock, as during Charles' recent visit to the US, he had nothing but praise for the monarch. He claimed that Charles was a "great, great guy" and appeared to laugh alongside Charles on several occasions.
Other leaders depicted in negative light
The video not only shows the King in a bad light, but also depicts the French President Emmanuel Macron in a similar manner, as he appears to walk past a ceremonial guard who had collapsed at the Elysee Palace. The video also does not give a positive representation of former US presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
Obama appears to give a 'half-hearted' salute to service men with a coffee cup in hand, and Biden is shown to be 'checking his watch' during a ceremony. These clips differ from the ones of Trump himself shaking hands with soldiers and veterans, returning hats to those who have lost them and hugging the elderly.
