Royal fans have pointed out a significant mistake in Meghan Markle's latest promotional video for her wine brand, As Ever. The Duchess of Sussex shared the clip on Thursday night to showcase her available wines, but viewers quickly noted that the video disproportionately highlights one variety over the others.
What the Video Shows
In the video, Meghan is dressed in white jeans, an ivory blazer, and a white tank top. She walks while holding two glasses and a bottle of brut sparkling wine before opening a rosé on a table set with a cheeseboard, a flower vase, and a wine bucket containing her other two wines: the 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut and the 2024 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Despite featuring all three wines, fans argue that the clip is essentially an advertisement for the rosé, with minimal screen time for the brut and barely any visibility for the sauvignon blanc.
Fan Reactions
Royal News Network, an account known for criticizing the Sussex couple, posted on X: "So close, and yet so far. Meghan attempts to do a new As Ever ad for her wine—a product she’s ignored for months—but fails to show off her Sauvignon blanc at all. It’s just basically an ad for her rosé with a quick sighting of the brut and I’m not sure I even saw the blanc was there."
The account added: "But more critically, this commercial is just glossy emptiness. Olivia showed Meghan how it was done in her video for influencers nowadays, and Meghan’s continuing with these failed, half-hearted efforts reeks of being stuck in 2016."
Another user agreed: "Meghan needs a lot of practice, maybe take some lessons and notes from Chef Giada here on her recent Instagram reel merchandising her Tuscan Grill Herb Blend spice."
A third commenter said: "Meghan seems reluctant to talk to the viewers. Growing a brand is all about parasocial interactions."
A fourth viewer wrote: "It’s a Meghan Markle performance and not an authentic effort to sell products. Meghan is the focus, not the products. We don’t know why the products are good and why we should bother to purchase them."
A fifth person added: "The only thing I see in her posts is advertising her and her outfits. I didn’t even realise it was for her wine, lol."
Previous Criticism
This is not the first time Meghan has faced backlash over her social media content. Earlier this week, she shared a video of herself chopping an onion on a charcuterie board, which drew criticism for her unusual cutting technique. The video was part of a series of clips and photos from her family's spring into summer activities in Montecito, California, with Prince Harry, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
