Emma Raducanu's Advice to Arthur Fery Ahead of Wimbledon Semi-Final
Raducanu's Advice to Fery for Wimbledon Semi-Final

British wildcard Arthur Fery has taken the tennis world by storm with his incredible run to the Wimbledon semi-finals. The 23-year-old, who was relatively unknown before the tournament, has captivated the public by becoming the first British wildcard to reach a Grand Slam singles semi-final in the Open Era.

Fery's Remarkable Journey

Fery arrived at SW19 ranked No.114 in the world and was a 500-1 outsider for the title. He has since defeated three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov and No.9 seed Flavio Cobolli, sweeping aside the Italian in straight sets in the quarter-finals. Born in France to French parents, Fery relocated to south-west London at just one month old and now carries the weight of a nation's hopes.

He is only the second wildcard player to reach the last four at Wimbledon after Croatia's Goran Ivanisevic, who went on to win the trophy in 2001. Fery's composed progression has exceeded his age and lack of experience, propelling him from relative anonymity to Britain's latest sporting sensation.

Raducanu's Words of Wisdom

Emma Raducanu, who transformed into a global sensation overnight with her fairytale US Open victory as a qualifier in 2021, understands the pressure Fery faces. Raducanu was ranked No.150 and just 18 years old when she won 10 straight matches without dropping a set in New York. The current British No.1, who missed this year's Wimbledon through injury, shared how she maintained focus during her run.

"The biggest thing is that I never once got ahead of myself," Raducanu told the WTA website. "For three weeks I just played the opponent in front of me. I took care of what I wanted to try and achieve on that day against that opponent and just repeated it for three weeks." She added: "I played some really great tennis against some extremely tough opponents and faced a lot of adversity despite the fact that I didn't drop a set. Those sets could have gone either way, a lot of them, because they were very tight games and the margins are so small."

Upcoming Semi-Final Battle

Fery will face French Open champion Alexander Zverev on Centre Court on Friday afternoon. A victory would set up a final against either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic. The British wildcard will need to heed Raducanu's advice to stay grounded and focused as he seeks to prolong his extraordinary Championships run.
