Outrage Over Far-Right Demo Using Kriss Donald's Image

Anti-racism activists have condemned the “exploitation of kids” in a sinister video that uses the image of Kriss Donald, a schoolboy murdered in a racist attack in 2004. The video, shared by far-right blogger and Restore Britain member Craig Houston, shows children and young people dressed in black, standing in formation before a picture of Kriss.

Video and Response

The clip, titled “Glasgow Silent Protest They Don’t Want You To Know About,” features a wreath with the words “we apologise” placed in front of Kriss’s image. Rows of over 50 people, many clearly children, hold candles, with some hooded or wearing caps. The wreath bears the message: “Guard the wee ones well for they carry tomorrow in their hearts.”

Houston, a prominent figure in a recent Glasgow demonstration where masked men were involved in racial disorder, shared the video. It had been viewed 35,000 times on X and 12,000 on YouTube as of yesterday, and was further shared by extremist “Tommy Robinson” to his two million followers.

Condemnation from Anti-Racism Groups

Mohammed Asif of Stand Up To Racism said Kriss Donald’s mother had previously condemned the BNP for using her son’s murder to promote hatred. “I’m quite sure that Kriss Donald’s mum would be really upset and angry to find that her son, who was the victim of a brutal and racist murder, is being used by racists in their publicity,” Asif said. “This is exploiting young kids… The police should really be involved in this particular activity because young people are being exploited.”

Football Fans Against Racism stated: “Kriss was the victim of a gang of thugs who were feared by the people of Pollokshields, both Asian and white alike. At the time of his killing, the BNP sought to racially exploit it by turning white against brown. We rejected their blatant attempts to divide the community and we will continue to oppose the attempts of the latest manifestation of Scottish fascism to appropriate and exploit Kriss’s murder for their own ends.”

Background of Kriss Donald’s Murder

Kriss Donald, 15, was abducted from Kenmure Street in Glasgow’s south side in March 2004 by five men after gang leader Imran “Baldy” Shahid was bottled in a nightclub. Kriss was unconnected to the incident but targeted because he was a “white boy” from McCulloch Street. The gang drove him 200 miles to the Clyde Walkway, where he was stabbed 13 times, doused in petrol, and set on fire. Imran Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid, and Faisal Mushtaq fled to Pakistan but were extradited and jailed for life in November 2026.

Wider Context of Far-Right Protests

Previous videos shared by Houston, filmed outside Glasgow Cathedral and the Scottish Parliament in June, featured black-clad men in military formation with a wreath reading “We apologise” and the Italian phrase “Il fine giustifica i mezzi” (The end justifies the means). Houston, who has 95,000 YouTube followers, denies orchestrating the gatherings but acknowledges being accused of a key role. The Record has contacted him about the latest clip and attempted to reach Kriss Donald’s family.
