Mbappé Fires Back After Paraguayan Senator's Racist 'Chimpanzees' Slur
Mbappé Blasts Senator Over Racist 'Chimpanzees' Rant

Kylian Mbappé has broken his silence after a racist rant from Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla, blasting her in a furious statement on X on Monday evening (July 6). In the aftermath of a brutal World Cup match between France and Paraguay, Amarilla posted a tirade including the claim that Mbappé was 'raised by chimpanzees'.

Mbappé's Response

Writing directly to her, the France captain said (English translation): 'Mrs Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your office. You do not represent Paraguay, a country that sweated passion and honour throughout the competition. Through your thoughtlessness and your unabashed racism, the whole world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort your players achieved during this World Cup, to make way for an incompetent woman giving the worst possible image of her country.' He added: 'I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and their racism throughout the world.'

The Incident That Sparked the Rant

The row was triggered by a post-match incident involving Mbappé and Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill. The game was described as incredibly physical and ill-tempered, with Paraguay players repeatedly targeting the French captain, before France won via a 70th-minute Mbappé penalty. After the final whistle, Gill went to shake hands with Mbappé. But Mbappé – still celebrating and apparently frustrated by the rough treatment he’d received – appeared to snub the gesture. Gill later admitted he 'lost his temper' and tossed the ball at Mbappé’s back in response.

Amarilla's Offensive Posts

In the aftermath, Amarilla, who is known for incendiary public remarks, hit out on X with a string of offensive, xenophobic and anti-Black comments. In one post, Amarilla wrote: 'Colonised Cameroonian, pretending to be French, resentful, nouveau riche, arrogant and ugly. He was nervous and scared to death the whole match, like his whole team, they couldn’t score a single goal, they won by s***.' She then claimed: 'The only thing many of us demanded of La Albirroja is that they didn’t give him an open-handed slap after the match ended. And that’s even though I’m not a football fanatic.' Amarilla doubled down after a user posted about the handshake snub, writing another remark aimed at Mbappé: 'Idiot, he didn’t even learn to write; instead of mother’s milk he sucked coconuts and the most educated thing he heard were chimpanzees. You should have shown him the finger Orlando Gill, I do it in the senate and nothing happens!!!'

International Outrage

Amarilla sparked fury online over the weekend after launching the racist tirade about Mbappé on X, including the vile jibe claiming he was 'raised by chimpanzees', less than 48 hours after France beat Paraguay 1-0 in a bad-tempered World Cup last-16 clash in Philadelphia, USA. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for her resignation or removal from office.
