Joe Wilson, a 28-year-old from Skipton, North Yorkshire, spends his weekends pressure washing elderly people's patios completely free of charge. When he is not working in house removals and deliveries, he turns his spare time to helping older residents restore their outdoor spaces.
He decided to take action after noticing that many elderly people in his area have gardens that are "unsafe," and he would hate for his own grandmother to come to harm because of a badly maintained home. The thought prompted him to help other people's loved ones as well, while he still can.
"A lot of their patios aren't really kept on top of, and their gardens can sometimes be incredibly unsafe. Most of these people can't really help themselves anymore, and with the cost of living on the rise, many of them also can't afford it. I always think that if that were my grandma walking outside onto her patio and she slipped and had a serious accident, it would be awful," he explained.
Friendly neighbourhood pressure washer
As well as cleaning, Joe films the process because he enjoys watching wholesome content in his own spare time. He set up the TikTok account @spraynpray2026, where he describes himself as a "friendly neighbourhood pressure washer" and says he "helps people's gardens shine." The account has already gained nearly 20,000 followers.
"I thought maybe I could make fun videos like that too, but at the same time, I could really help out someone's loved one," he shared. He also admitted that he dreams of making it a "full-time thing" if he can monetise his social media content.
Community response has been 'incredibly supportive'
The reaction to his videos has been overwhelming, with the community proving "incredibly supportive." According to Joe, the older people he has helped are thrilled with the results, and some even try to offer him money.
"The old folks I've been helping have been so happy with the results, and some try to offer me money afterwards, because cleaning a garden patio can quite literally make your garden look brand new," Joe gushed.
Fans have told him that it is people like him who "make the world a better place," and others have called him a "real gentleman." Some have jokingly hoped he never gets "a tick, a mosquito bite, sunburn, or a parking ticket."
Joe also revealed he has "had so many emails and DMs from people who have relatives or friends in bad situations that could do with his help."
"The best way to support what I'm doing is by watching and interacting with the videos I post on social media, so that I can get better equipment and maybe even a van, so I can travel around to those people who need it!" he went on. "Every view, like, comment, and share pays money on TikTok, so by using that system, I can make money through my channel that I can put back into the community."
While caution is always advised when a stranger turns up offering services, Joe appears to be genuinely helping countless people and transforming lives for the better.
