Liverpool Pub Leaves Note for Customers During Heatwave

Ember Inns, a chain operating several pubs across Merseyside, has issued a statement to customers amid the ongoing heatwave. The Richmond in Wavertree shared the group's note on Instagram, explaining that service may be slower as staff take extra rest breaks in hotter conditions, especially in the kitchen.

Note Details and Impact

The note from Ember Inns reads: “With temperatures set to rise, our team will be working hard in hotter conditions, especially in the kitchen, where it can get significantly warmer than outside. To help everyone stay well, we're building in extra rest breaks for our team throughout the day. This might mean service is a little slower at times, but it's all to ensure the people who look after you are looked after too.” The note also encourages guests to stay hydrated and thanks them for their patience.

Other Ember Inns locations in the region include The Black Bull in Gateacre, The Railway in Formby, and The Greave Dunning in Greasby. The chain's move comes as a 48-hour amber heat warning from the Met Office hits the region, with temperatures expected to reach nearly 30°C today and again on Thursday.

Broader Impact of the Heatwave

This week has already seen high temperatures causing widespread rail disruption across Merseyside and beyond. In response to the heat, Suburbs Patisserie, a popular bakery on Allerton Road, has decided to close until the warning ends on Friday, June 26. Owners Darren and Rebecca Roper opened the French-inspired patisserie in February 2025, and it has been a hit with customers, often selling out and creating queues. The bakery's standout items include fruit tarts, flaky pastries, croissants, cakes, and brunch sandwiches.

Steve Corris, general manager at The Richmond, was pictured with the note. The heatwave could see record-breaking June temperatures in the UK, prompting businesses to prioritize staff welfare.
