Scotland striker Kieron Bowie has agreed a five-year contract with Serie A side Sassuolo, according to reports. The 23-year-old forward will move from Hellas Verona for a fee of £10 million plus future add-ons.
Long-term deal until 2031
Bowie has thrash out terms on a deal that will keep him at Sassuolo until the summer of 2031. He will join Scotland teammate Josh Doig at the club. Serie A rivals Cagliari, Bologna and Lazio were also interested but needed to sell before meeting the asking price.
German, Portuguese and English clubs also expressed interest, but the player's preference was to remain in Italy. Verona are keen to finalise the deal quickly so they can fund their own rebuild after relegation to Serie B.
Hibs entitled to profit share
The move will also see Hibernian cash in. The Easter Road club sold Bowie to Verona for £6 million in January and are entitled to around 15 per cent of any profit. That amounts to approximately £500,000, though the figure could increase.
Bowie scored four goals in 14 appearances for struggling Verona, netting against the likes of Inter and Juventus. His performances attracted attention from other Serie A sides. The former Raith Rovers star was surprisingly omitted from Scotland's World Cup squad.
