Jordan Henderson Backed for Coaching Role After Injury

Jordan Henderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 World Cup after breaking his wrist in the aftermath of England's 3-2 victory over Mexico in the last 16. The 36-year-old midfielder slipped while attempting to leap over an advertising hoarding at the Estadio Azteca on Monday morning and required surgery. He had played just 12 minutes in the tournament.

Barry Praises Henderson's Coaching Potential

England assistant coach Anthony Barry has backed Henderson to move into management once his playing career ends. Speaking to talkSPORT, Barry said: "I see everything in Jordan. I'm so in awe of him as a player, a person and also maybe a future coach. He has it all, he's the full package, he's a serial winner as a player and an elite person off the pitch. And when it comes to football IQ, he can really hold court with anyone and the best of them."

Barry added: "So the future is bright for Jordan, I'm sure. Maybe one day he takes my seat, kicks me off, and Thomas replaces me. But if I was to be replaced by Jordan, it would be a fantastic pick."

England Prepare for Norway Quarter-Final

England face Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with kick-off at 10pm BST. Henderson will watch from the sidelines. He is not the only absentee: Jarell Quansah received a red card against Mexico and serves a two-match ban, ruling him out until the final if England progress. Reece James is expected to be available after recovering from a hamstring injury, and Djed Spence is also in contention. Marc Guehi missed training this week due to a minor hamstring injury sustained against Mexico; if he fails to train on Friday, his chances of playing against Norway are slim.
