The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been criticised by a royal commentator for trying to control the outcome of their state-funded security review since returning to the UK. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to return to Britain last month, six years after leaving the country for a new life in America.
Security review controversy
A month earlier, their trip to the UK was again steeped in controversy after various back-and-forths, all linked to their security. Now the couple are rumoured to want to return to the US for good if the latest review on their security, which was downgraded since their royal exit, does not go their way.
Commentator's criticism
Royal commentator Angela Levin told TalkTV: “It’s blackmail, isn’t it? That’s what I think. If the two of them now, if you don’t give them exactly what they want, when they want, I think it’s a blackmail thing. If they do go back, I’d be delighted; they are real nuances and extremely unpleasant here (in the UK). Why should we pay them money for everything they’re doing? They’re not doing anything (for us).”
