Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam, known as the 'Devil of Wednesday', has taken credit for Harry Kane's failure to score in England's goalless draw with Ghana in Boston. Bonsam now claims he will 'release' Kane so he can score against Panama.
Bonsam's Spell and Declaration
Before the match, Bonsam said he was working on a spell to stop Kane. “I am working on Harry Kane. I have shown what I am capable of before so I know what work I must do to stop him. I am very famous for my predictions. I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country,” he stated.
After the draw, Bonsam declared himself the “most powerful spiritualist in the whole world” and announced his intention to free Kane. “Now, I am going to release Harry Kane so that, his next match, he can score. Harry, I will come and visit you. Don’t be offended. We are friends,” he added.
Previous Claims
In 2014, Bonsam claimed responsibility for a knee injury that threatened Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup participation. “This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else,” he said at the time. Ronaldo recovered and scored the winner against Ghana.
Kane's Performance and Reaction
Kane managed only 19 touches against Ghana but had the best chance, blasting over from seven yards in stoppage time. He praised Ghana's defending and accepted the miss: “You go through games like that. I was waiting for an opportunity like that to fall my way and it was a game as a striker where you are just waiting for the ball to bounce. It did and I just couldn’t quite get over the ball. I’d back myself to score that more often than not, but it is what it is and I’ve been a striker long enough to know they don’t always go in, so I have to accept it.”
