GB News has issued a major update in the murder investigation of Ann Widdecombe, with the network's Home and Security Editor Mark White reporting live from Devon on Wednesday morning. The Reform UK politician was found dead in her Devon home last week, prompting a nationwide manhunt.
Counter Terrorism Police Take Over Case
Earlier this week, Counter Terrorism Police assumed control of the investigation and arrested a 28-year-old man from Rotherham on suspicion of preparation, commission or instigation of acts of terrorism. On Tuesday night, detectives confirmed Widdecombe's death was a "targeted attack" and said that targeting Reform UK figures would be a "line of investigation."
Possible Motive: Far-Left Extremism
Speaking live on GB News, Mark White stated: "In terms of the motivation, Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, the most senior counter-terror officer said the police were keeping an open mind in terms of everything from far-left extremism to non-defined ideology, all that is being looked at." He added that police were also investigating whether other Reform party members may have been potential targets.
Reform UK Security Concerns
White noted that Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, is expected to point to the increased risk facing party members. "They have already spoken of hundreds of threats, many of them death threats, that come in on an almost daily basis to Reform," White said. Farage is scheduled to meet with Home Office officials to discuss security arrangements, and he is expected to request that security be extended to other MPs and prominent Reform politicians.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation continues as police work to determine the full extent of any plot. Assistant Commissioner Taylor emphasized that all avenues remain open, including far-left extremism and non-defined ideologies. The case has drawn significant attention due to Widdecombe's high-profile career as a politician and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant.
