Trying season five has arrived on Apple TV and BBC iPlayer, bringing a fresh wave of drama and new faces to the beloved comedy-drama. The series returns after a two-year hiatus, picking up from a cliffhanger that saw the return of Princess and Tyler's biological mother, Kat.
New Cast Members Join Trying Season 5
The biggest addition to the cast is Celia Imrie, known for her role in Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club. Imrie plays Harriet, an "upper-class hoarder" whom Jason Ross encounters during his training for a new career. Her filmography also includes the Bridget Jones series, Calendar Girls, and Mamma Mia! Colin Morgan, famous for playing Merlin in the BBC series, joins as Kerry, Nikki's laid-back co-worker and confidante. Morgan is also known for Humans, Belfast, and The Killing Kind.
Gbemisola Ikumelo takes on the role of Chrissy, an overworked social worker. Ikumelo starred in The Office spin-off The Paper, as well as Black Ops, Famalam, Sunny D, and Roadkill.
Returning Cast Members
Rafe Spall reprises his role as Jason Ross, who now faces the challenge of training for a new career path alongside family pressures. Spall is known for Under the Salt Marsh, Black Mirror, The Ritual, and ITV's Secret Service.
Esther Smith returns as Nikki Newman, dealing with the chaos as her children's biological mother tries to re-enter their lives. Smith has appeared in Cuckoo, Uncle, and Ballot Monkeys.
Charlotte Riley plays Kat, the biological mother of Princess and Tyler, whose return upends the family. Riley is best known for Peaky Blinders, The Take, and Wuthering Heights, and is married to Tom Hardy.
Other returning cast members include Scarlett Rayner as Princess, Cooper Turner as Tyler, Sian Brooke as Karen Newman, Darren Boyd as Scott, and Oliver Chris as Freddy.
