Paralympic legend Dame Sarah Storey has been announced as the next celebrity contestant for Strictly Come Dancing 2026, the BBC has confirmed. The four-time gold medalist will join the lineup for the upcoming series, which is set to air this autumn.
Dame Sarah Storey's Remarkable Career
Storey, 48, is one of Britain's most decorated Paralympians, with 17 gold medals across cycling and swimming. She has competed in nine Paralympic Games since 1992, winning her first gold at the age of 14. Her transition from swimming to cycling after the 2004 Athens Games yielded further success, including four gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the Strictly family," Storey said. "I've always loved dancing, and I can't wait to learn from the professionals and hopefully bring some of my competitive spirit to the dance floor."
Strictly Come Dancing 2026 Lineup
Storey joins a growing list of confirmed celebrities for the 2026 series, which includes actor Tom Hiddleston, singer Dua Lipa, and former footballer Gary Lineker. The full cast is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The show's producers have praised Storey's inclusion, highlighting the importance of diversity and representation. "Sarah is an inspiration to millions, and we are delighted to welcome her to the show," a BBC spokesperson said. "Her determination and grace will undoubtedly make her a fantastic competitor."
What to Expect from the New Series
Strictly Come Dancing 2026 will feature 15 celebrity contestants, each paired with a professional dancer. The series is scheduled to premiere in September, with live shows running through December. Judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton du Beke are all expected to return.
Storey's participation marks the first time a Paralympic athlete has competed on the UK version of the show, though Paralympians have appeared on international versions, including the US series Dancing with the Stars.
"I hope my journey on Strictly will encourage others to pursue their passions, no matter the obstacles," Storey added. "Let's dance!"
