Agatha Christie Fans Should See Murder Express Instead of The Mousetrap
Murder Express: The Must-See Agatha Christie Inspired Show

Agatha Christie fans heading to London’s West End might instinctively book tickets for The Mousetrap or Witness for the Prosecution. However, Murder Express: Part Deux, an immersive dining experience at Pedley Street Station in Bethnal Green, offers a fresh and equally entertaining alternative. Produced by Funicular, the show is not a direct adaptation but takes clear inspiration from Murder on the Orient Express.

The Premise: A Train to Murdér, France

Guests board a fictional train from Arch 63, heading to the town of Murdér, France, in the 1930s. The plot revolves around the Jewel of the Empire, discovered by archaeologist Dr Earhart (Annie McKenzie). The gem is destined for an aristocratic family, but every passenger has a motive to steal it. Dr Earhart wants it returned to India; train conductor Tomothy Timmins (James Keningale) hopes to pawn it to win back his lost love; Vera Valentine (Abigail Halley) claims it belongs to her family; and enigmatic Russian Saskia Selikov (Margot Cadic) has her own agenda. Detective Gilbért (George Alexander) investigates, though his own motives may be questionable.

Immersive Experience with Interactive Clues

Upon arrival, guests receive a newspaper detailing the jewel’s history and the town of Murdér. The journey begins on a dimly lit platform with a cocktail bar before boarding the train. Each table features video screens acting as windows, displaying the fictional landscape. Throughout the meal, attendees solve a crossword puzzle that offers clues for the final reveal. Interaction with characters is encouraged: passengers chat with suspects and face questioning from the detective, adding improvisational fun.

AA Rosette-Winning Cuisine

The food comes from AA Rosette-winning restaurant Lunar, included in the Michelin Guide. The spring/summer 2026 menu starts with an amuse bouche of tapenade and cheese twists, followed by a creamy asparagus velouté that plays a role in the storyline. The main course is roast chicken breast with peppercorn and brandy sauce, creamed potatoes, and broccoli, ending with chocolate brownie and ice cream. The air-conditioned venue was a relief during London’s heatwave, according to the reviewer.

Humour and Acting Steal the Show

The performance’s humour was the standout element, making it one of the reviewer’s favourites of 2026. The acting quality, delicious food, and the thrill of solving the mystery—with hints in the crossword—combined for a memorable evening. The big reveal after dessert did not disappoint, rewarding savvy guessers.
